Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Ann Walsh haven’t competed together since the 2008 Olympics, where the dynamic duo won the Gold Medal for the second time and then became known as the greatest beach volleyball team of all time. After the 2008 Olympics in China, the dynamic duo extended their winning streak to 69 matches and 10 event titles. They dominated everyone, reaching 112 straight wins in domestic and international events.
Last October, Misty May-Treanor ruptured her left Achilles and tore her calf while practicing for the “Dancing With the Stars,” Show. More people get injured on Dancing With the Stars then football players on the field.
She’s still going through phyiscal therapy and rehab, but getting ever closer to returning in competative form. She is currently working her way back to gaining full strength in her left leg. She’s now in her 10th month since having the surgery that required an 8-12-month recovery/rehab.
Will Misty Make it Back?
YES or No
In the meantime, Kerri Ann Walsh, who gave birth to her first child in May, has returned to the Association of Volleyball Professionals Tour and is playing with Rachel Wacholder.
Earlier this August, Misty May-Treanor watched Walsh and Wacholder compete together in the Hermosa Beach Open and it didn’t bother her that Walsh was playing with Wachholder. She was there giving her support and wished for the very best for Walsh.
She hasn’t given a date to return to play. She’ll most likely wait until October to decide what to do. Until then she plans to spend alot more time with her husband Matt Treanor. He’s the backup catcher for the Detroit Tigers. She’s been enjoying the time with him since he’s also working his way back to competition. He has been out most of the season after having hip surgery.
While Misty May-Treanor may not be so sure about the future, she is very hopeful.
“I hope to God she comes back and we’ll play together,” Walsh told USA Today. “Whatever her choice is, I’m sure it will be the right one”.
